Shopping in New York
Shopping in New York can be a very amazing experience, and sometime it can be a giant pain. When In 2014 I lived in New York, and I was obsessed with the great fashion. When I went to visit in Apri the stores I came to know were all gone. Even the local thrift shop in Brooklyn has became smaller, and the clothing choices are now limited. I miss the good old days when you could walk into a store like that and you could find cool things on the rack.
When did it all change ? To me it seems it changed once they become popular. Macklemore wrote this hit song ThriftShop, the song become a smash hit, but it also put thrift stores on the forefront. I just think about the pressure that local thrift shops were going through. Macklemore made it seem like these types of places were hip and cool. These places are, but they could only do so much and most times the clothes they receive are either turned away. Just like most trends in hipster culture people became bored with this type of alternative shopping. So hipsters move on to bigger, and different ways to get cool clothes. Now, thrift shops are not as popular as they once were and they struggle in reinvent themselves in the eyes in the public. Some of these places were non profit, but now they are suffering . I can't help but feel they were just better off when middle aged and old people were their customers.
